What to Expect

Each trip with Fly & Wind is shaped by the natural conditions of the Sea of Cortez and guided by generations of local knowledge. No two days on the water are the same, and our approach is always flexible, adapting to weather, tides and seasonal species to provide the best possible experience.

Trips typically begin in the early morning, when conditions are ideal, and take place in the waters surrounding La Ventana. Throughout the day, your guide or captain will work closely with you to ensure a safe, engaging and rewarding experience, whether you are focusing on technique, exploring different fishing grounds or simply enjoying time on the water.

Our trips are designed for small groups, allowing for a more personal and attentive experience. For fly fishing, this means a more technical and focused approach, while sport fishing trips offer a dynamic and exciting way to target seasonal species.

Above all, we aim to provide an authentic connection to the ocean, combining local expertise, responsible practices and a deep respect for the environment that makes this region so unique.

Seasonal Species

The waters of the Sea of Cortez offer a wide variety of species throughout the year, with each season bringing unique fishing opportunities. While conditions may vary, below is a general guide to what can be expected:

January – March

April – June

July – September

October – December

Please note that fishing conditions and species availability can vary depending on weather, water temperature and migration patterns.

What To Bring

For a comfortable and enjoyable day on the water, we recommend wearing lightweight, breathable clothing with full sun protection, including long sleeves, hats and high-SPF sunscreen. The conditions in La Ventana can be warm and bright, making polarized sunglasses essential for both comfort and visibility while fishing.

Depending on the season, early mornings can be cool, so bringing a light jacket or additional layer is recommended. As the day progresses, temperatures typically rise, making layered clothing the best option for staying comfortable throughout the trip.

Guests are welcome to bring a swimsuit if they wish to get in the water during the experience. We also suggest bringing any personal items you may need for the day, such as medications or additional sun protection.

Please note that a valid fishing license is required for each guest and should be arranged prior to the trip.

We also recommend bringing cash for optional expenses, such as live bait (if used) and gratuities for your guide, which are customary and greatly appreciated.

Conservation

At Fly & Wind, we are committed to responsible fishing practices.
Most of our fishing is conducted under a catch and release philosophy, helping preserve the health and sustainability of local fish populations.

In accordance with local regulations, certain species may be kept when permitted by law. Our team will guide you on current regulations and best practices to ensure a responsible and respectful experience.
